Ministerial Written Statement

June 2010

The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families (Tim Loughton MP) announced the Coalition Government's arrangement for the Publication of Serious Case Review Reports and the Munro Review of Child Protection. A letter was sent to all LSCB Chairs and Directors of Children Services stating that Serious Case Reviews initiated on or after the 10th June 2010, should publish the final Overview Reports together with Executive Summaries. This communication also outlines the scope and remit of the Review of Child protection that Professor Eileen Munro has been asked to lead on. The Munro Review is expected to be completed and published by April 2011.

Contact Point Update

June 2010

Contact Point is an online national database of all children. It was designed to assist authorised child care professionals to identify children and those who might be working with them quickly. This was in order to share information about a child who might be in need of support or protection. The initiative was conceived and implemented by the previous Labour Government as part of the Every Child Matters Programme to improve outcomes for children. However, the current Coalition Government have confirmed that Contact Point will now cease to exist.

Necessary steps are being taken locally to ensure Tower Hamlets decommissions Contact Point securely and to consider future options for how information can be shared on children and young people across the Partnership.
